Welcome to the Jungle

Or rather, the infirmary. Yesterday Joey didn't feel well so I took him to work with me. We had a 3:00 doctors appointment for routine things, so I fugured I would just see what happened. Around 11:45 we get a call from VIcky's school; she's in the office and has thrown up 8 times in an hour. Oh.Joy. Chris had to leave work and take care of them while I finished up some work, and then I took the 3 of them to the doctor. Verdicts? Victoria- flu; Cameron- fine, but likely to catch the flu; Joseph- acute bronchitis. Double joy. Took Vicky and Joey tto work with me today where they behaved VERY unlike sick children. On the way home Cameron calls me from school, he has a fever, doesn't feel good, AND was left by the carpool. RAPTURE! If I get sick, I swear I will shoot myself.

Mondays

Today started off badly and rapidly progressed to bad movie status. I woke up late and rushed to get ready as the kids yelled out to me that gramma was here. After readying so fast I must have been a nlur, I searched for my keys. And searched. And then looked. And then, an epiphany. I knew where my keys were; I just couldn't get them. They were, of course, in Chris' car, 8.6 miles away. Lucky for me, Molly was here and she drove me to get my keys. On the way back, an unseen truck ahead of decided that it would vomit out peices of metal. Driving 65 miles on a packed freeway we were unable to avoid the dancing metal legs bouncing about, going over one and having one hit the side of the car. Amazingly, the car seems fairly undamaged. Got back home, jumped into my car and headed for Starbucks. Waited in line for my Cinnamon Dolce latte, got it, and went to buy a box of breakfast bars. While in line I tasted my drink, and wouldn't you know it, NO FUCKING COFFEE in it. It was milk and dolce mix. So I went and asked for coffee while the girl looked at me all confused. GRRRR. Caffeine fix being satisfied now, I decided to jump on the freeway that just 30 minutes earlier was wide open. Got on, got over, and.... nothing. Dead stop. 15 minutes later I have gone like 1 mile and see a sign; accident, lanes blocked. *Sigh* I was already late for work, which NEVER happens. I called in and inched my ginormous, beautiful new car over, lane by lane, to the opposite side of the freeway to exit. Finally made it to work where my brain refused to cooperate with me. Some days are just worse than others. I did get through the day, picked up my kids, (who had a much better day than I, going to the movies with gramma) and went on a "de-clutter the bathrooms" rampage. Chris took us to dinner at Hibachi steakhouse, which was awesome. Now we are watching the Golden Globes, and I for one am looking forward to tomorrow being a new day.

My Basketball Diary

So today was a busy one, filled with visions of orange balls flying through the air. (And also of thesound of whistles, screeching kids, and screaming fathers. Chris took Joey to basketball this morning; I got up 30 minutes after he left and began getting ready and getting Vicky's hair done for the day, then got my daily Starbucks (which she screwed up) and met up with Chris for Cameron's game. They played a good game, but ultimately lost by two points to the opposing team, which happened to be coached by Vicky's old coach. Directly after that game, I took Cameron to his team pizza party while Chris took the other 2 kids home for a quick meal and then to Vicky's 1st game. (Ya, first.) We left the pizza party and went to Vicky's game, where the guys running the scoreboard were brother and best friend to one of the girls on the opposing team. Talk about tragic comedy. They put the points on the wrong side or not at all, they ran the clock when it was supposed to be stopped, left it stopped when it was supposed to be running, left to shoot baskets during time-outs, and generally just fucked up all over the place. In spite of all this, the game went into overtime and we won it, even though parents on the opposing team claimed that WE cheated. Vicky's second game went much better, clean, good game. We played against a different league, and we won this one too, despite this being our second game of the day and their first, placing Vicky's team in first! YAY Vicky! SO now the day is over, and we are home relaxing, gettinbg ready to watch The Island. Tomorrow the kids are off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but Chris and I are not. I wish I were a kid again.

basketball, basketball, basketball

today has been the day from basketball hell. had to wake up at 8am to take joey to basketball clinic... following that we had cameron's basketball game which they lost a heartbreaker by 2 points. while heather and cameron went to the pizza party vicky, joey and i came home and got ready to go to vicky's 1st game of the day, yes thats right the 1st game. for some unknown reason they have 2 games scheduled for the same day. the game was about as long as any game could be, the ref's called every single foul imaginable. 3 people fouled out, it went into overtime where the last 2 minutes took about 20 since every play there was a foul where they got to shoot free throws. vicky's team did eventually win, thank god.

now we are home resting before vicky's second game, which is at a different high school. not looking forward to this, 2 games in one day is a little much, 3 games and a practice is ridiculous!!! hahaha, oh well, this is what we signed up for i guess. i will have some pictures here in a little bit hopefully later tonight depending on how long this game takes.

update: wow, we just got back from vicky's 2nd game and all i can say is wow!! that was the best game ever. she played against a team in another league and she played awesome scoring 4 points. at first it looked like it was going to be a blow out and vicky's team was going to be embarrased but in the 3rd period they took the lead and never looked back. they are now tied for 1st place! i am too tired to download the pictures, but you all knew that was going to happen, huh? lol, yes i know i am lazy!! but i will for sure download them in the morning when i get to work.

the lady killers

last night heather and i put the kids to bed and decided to watch a movie. the other day heather was a blockbuster and got a couple of old movies that we wanted to see, one of which was the lady killers with tom hanks.

what a bizarre movie. here is the plot outline from imdb:

An eccentric, if not charming Southern professor and his crew pose as a band in order to rob a casino, all under the nose of his unsuspecting landlord: a sharp old woman.

the movie was horrible, i am surprised that we actually got thru the entire thing. we kept thinking to ourselves its gonna get better. it never did.

please let it rain

this weekend is going to be an extremely busy one, if it doesn't rain. tomorrow both vicky and cameron will have basketball practice. sunday joey has basketball practice first thing in the morning then cameron has a basketball game followed by two games for vicky. i just checked weather.com and apparently its supposed to rain all weekend which would mean that tomorrow both practices would be cancelled leaving only the games on sunday since they play in the gym and practice outside. joey's practice wouldn't be cancelled because they play in the gym as well but it would give us ALL day saturday to do nothing but relax. which is what WE all need. i feel like we have been doing something every single weekend for the past 2 months.

so please god, let it rain. let it rain A LOT :)

books

i was just looking over my book list, i can't believe i have only read one book in the past year. this year i am going to make it a goal to read atleast one book per month. i just started forever odd, which is the second novel dean koontz has written about the character odd thomas. i read odd thomas about a year and half ago, it was the first book i read by dean koontz. it ranks up there as one of my all time favorites.

hopefully i can keep my goal. i think after this i am going to go back to anne rice's the vampire chronicles. i absolutely love those books and need to finish that series. i think i left off on the vampire armand.

when?

when will kids learn? what does it take?? you can buy them EVERYTHING their little hearts desire but that only makes them spoiled rotten. everyday we have asked our kids to do their homework, do their chores then they can play. everyday our kids come home, fight with one another nonstop. yell and scream about how its not fair that the other one doesn't have to do what they have to do. i gave them one last chance today. i told them that they must get their homework done, get their chores done and to not fight with one another, one time. to make it easy i told them to just not even talk to eachother, but if their mother tells me that they fought one time then EVERYTHING will come out of their room except their bed and their clothes. ipods, phones, tv's, computer, toys, etc will be put in trash bags and stored in the garage until they can prove to me that they deserve them.

well guess what, on my way home i get to stop at the store to buy a box of trash bags because what do you know, they have been fighting NON-STOP since i got off the phone with them... and it was over stupid stuff of course, vicky looking at cameron wrong, cameron taking a piece of paper from vicky... argh!! it is so freaking hard to be a parent! i don't remember signing up for any of this! i swear they are going to put one of us in the looney bin real soon.

vans skate camp

vans skate park - orange, ca

for christmas both cameron and joey got skateboards, a membership to the vans skate park and a week long camp at the skate park. neither of the boys have ever rode a skateboard so i wanted them to get some sort of lessons. i tried about a year ago to show them how dad used to do it when he was their age. when i was their age i never once broke a bone, lots of sprained ankles and bloody knees but never a broken bone. after about 5 minutes of showing my boys the correct way to do it i hit a rock of some sort and the next thing i knew i had fallen and landed on my elbow. it swelled up pretty bad but i was ok. the next morning i couldn't move my arm, went to the doctor and what do you know it was a hairline fracture.

i wasn't going to make that mistake again so we signed them up and had the professionals teach them. so far its going great. after three days my boys are riding the ramps. cameron can actually drop in on the mini half pipe. its so freaking cool!! check out the rest of the pics and check back cause i will be adding more pictures to this file throughout the week.

happy new year

for new years heather, the kids, my mom and i all went to las vegas. originally we were all going to see tiesto at the orleans arena. a few months back heather and i saw tiesto at the sports arena where they had posters posted that the nye show in vegas was going to be all ages. thinking it would be awesome to take the kids we got our rooms and awaited tix to go on sale. much to our disappointment when the tix finally went on sale we found out they changed it from all ages to 21+. oh well, we decided we were still going to go and we were going to have a great time.

we started out friday afternoon about 1ish. we finally made it to new york new york by 8:30pm. the ride wasn't too bad, the kids all had their dvd players and ipods to keep them busy. the rooms were awesome after we all got settled in we took the kids down to the arcard to check out for a little bit and then decided it was best to get some rest for new years eve. when we got back to the room heather and my mom went back down to do a little gambling while the kids and i laid down and watched a movie and fell asleep.

the following day we went out for a walk across the street to the mgm grand to check out the lion's. we also went to the m&m and coca cola factory's which the kids loved. the kids were starving by this time so we headed back to ny, ny and ate at nathan's hot dogs. joey ordered the chicken strips after one he threw up all over the seat and myself, yumm... joey and i decided that we should go upstairs and clean up.

towards the end of the night heather and i went downstairs to check out the freakiness that is las vegas. the freaks really do come out in vegas, oh my... unfortuntely i left my camera in the hotel room. we made it back to the room right at midnight to say happy new year to everyone and see the spectacular fireworks show out of our room.

the trip was a lot of fun, just a completely different experience with the kids... i caught joey's flu on the 12 hour drive home sunday and didn't really get over it until tuesday.
